Creating and joining a game
You can either create a new game, or join an existing game. Somebody first need to create a game.
Then the game creator has to inform other players of the game id so they can join the newly
created game. When creating the game, there are a few options
for the card distribution pattern (note that the deck size will be set automatically so that each player gets 8 cards maximum):
- Whether to play multiple hands with just one card (multiple means as many as there are players)
- Whether to play multiple hands with no trump (no trump happens when the maximum number of cards have been dealt -
so for instance if there are 4 players no trump will be when each player gets 8 cards
- The increment to use when increasing/decreasing the number of cards being dealt.
For instance choosing an increment of 1, just one hand with one card and multiple hands with no trump, the distribution pattern will be:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (4 players, 32 cards)
If you want a shorter game, you can set the increment to 2, and the distribution pattern will be:
1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 5, 3, 1
When creating or joining a game, each player has to specify their alias for the game.
Playing
Playing involves three phases: dealing cards, betting, and playing rounds for each hand. Dealing is performed by the computer,
so players do not have to do anything for that phase. Whenever a player has to do something (i.e. bet or play), the player alias
flashes. Remember when betting that the last player to bet may be restricted as
the total number of bets cannot be equal to the number of cards that have been dealt.
To play a card, just clik that card. Cards that can be played have a green border.
Rules of game
Romanian whist is a game for 3 to 6 players. Each player plays alone.
The cards rank as follows: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, and so on. They have no value, because it is a game for tricks only.
Deal
The first dealer is chosen at random.
The number of cards dealt to each player varies during the game.
It start with only one card. After this the number of cards dealt to each player increases
with every deal until eventually all the cards are dealt.
Then as many deals are played with all cards used (using no trump) than there are players.
Then the number of cards dealt decreases again until every player gets only one card.
This application lets you configure the distribution pattern when creating a new game
After the cards are dealt, the next card is put face up (if trump is used); the suit of this card is the trump suit.
Bidding
Each player in order, beginning with the player to the dealer's left, bids how many tricks they think they will take.
All bids are final and cannot be changed afterwards.
To ensure that not everyone will succeed in their bid, the sum of all tricks bid must not be the same as the number of cards dealt to each player.
(Example: game with six cards, three players: The first player bids "3", the next "1".
The last player cannot bid "2", as this would make the sum of the tricks equal to 6.
In this case, the last bidder must bid 0, 1, 3, 4, 5 or 6).
This rule puts the last bidder (the dealer) at a disadvantage.
Playing
The player to dealer's left plays the first card.
The other players must play a card of the same suit if possible.
Any player who has no card of the suit led may play a trump or any other card
The trick is won by whoever played the highest trump, or if no trump was played, by whoever played the highest card of the suit led.
The winner of the trick leads to the next.
The objective is to win exactly the number of tricks you said you would win.
The hand ends when all cards are played.
Scoring
Players who made their contract (exactly) get one bonus point plus the number of tricks they made.
Players who took fewer tricks than their bid lose one point for each under-trick.
Players who took more tricks than their bid lose one point for each over-trick.
Examples: Suppose you bid 3 tricks. If you take exactly 3 you will win 4 points (3 + 1).
If you take only two tricks you lose 1 point; the same if you take 4 tricks.
If you take 1 or 5 tricks (two off from your bid) you will lose 2 points;
